need some coffee?

Jan. 11
Salem talking like the big bad wolf (in his gruffest voice) in his high chair during lunch, "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house up!". It was extra cute, because I don't think he has any idea what it means to blow something up yet, but is really starting to get opposites....just swapped "up" for "down".

Jan.12
We had a fun playdate with Hallel and Simeon. Hallel and Salem have been friends from day one, so it's really cute to see them interacting and talking now....hard to believe they're so grown up!

Jan. 13
"Mommy, you need some coffee?" Salem has started pretending that he's drinking and serving coffee to us from Cohen's little stacking cubes! I love it and it totally reminds me of when we were little and played with our toy kitchen set!

somebody's almost two!

Well, I think I'll probably have to change up some stuff with this blog soon...such as the name for one! It's turning out to be a memory every few days or so and not the neat, short little entries that I intended in the description. Anyway, I just realized yesterday that it's less than a month before Salem will be two and I can hardly believe it. I'm trying to enjoy every moment with my two sweet boys, because it is sure going by fast!

Yesterday we had dinner with our good friends the Mills, who are moving to Portland this week! So sad to see them go, but excited for them! It's encouraging to see how God provided and all the little details worked out for them, since we have a big change coming as well soon with Joe graduating this spring!

I feel like the terrible twos have arrived with a vengeance and it's been challenging dealing with Salem. Praying for patience and wisdom and grace for Joe and I to be the examples we need to be. It's humbling and convicting sometimes, he is such a mirror of us. That's it for now.

cold

It's been cold here lately.....really cold. So yesterday turned out to be the perfect day to make a big pot of chili! We had a couple friends over (one of whom we've been planning to have over for almost two years for chili!) and devoured tons of chili and Mexican corn bread then finished off the night playing our favorite card game, Dutch Blitz...fun!!

Today is cold again and Salem is sick...poor guy, he had a 100 degree fever at lunch. So we've been reading lots of books, singing songs, watching tv and trying to stay warm. It's sad to see him feeling this way, but he has been really sweet and cuddly! Time to get off and read another favorite book....Goodnight Gorilla :)

sleepy boy

Poor Salem has been having trouble going down for his naps lately (maybe due to no paci or just a stage) and having trouble sleeping long enough. Anyway this afternoon he went down and only slept 20 or 30 minutes, then woke up crying and wouldn't go back down so we let him get up. He came into the living room, talked with us a little bit, then crouched down on the floor by the recliner where Joe was sitting and went to sleep in about 20 seconds. It was cute and sad at the same time...he was sooooo sleepy!

the fox

Salem's latest new love is the song "The fox went out on a chilly night". We listened to the Nickel Creek version I don't know how many times today! He kept on repeating "the bones-o, bones-o, bones-o" and sang (or I should say SHOUTED) it while playing his drum to entertain Cohen! It is especially sweet to me, because this is a song my granddad used to love to sing, and then my mom sang it to us growing up.
On another unrelated, very happy note, this is Salem's second night paci-free and he didn't even cry one bit when Joe put him down tonight. PRAISE THE LORD!

bath time

Well I thought of a lot of things I could put up about today (w.h.e.w. I'm tired), but decided to write about Cohen's bath time. Joe was bathing him tonight and called me in to watch him kicking...he was kicking so hard it was splashing water out of his little tub and just smiling away and having a blast! It makes me happy thinking about how much fun it will be (and wet I will get) when he's a little bigger and he and Salem have their baths together!

it's right there!

Joe to Salem when he got home from work this afternoon, "Where's my hug and kiss?" And Salem's reply was, "It's right there!" putting his finger up to his lips and pointing! Nobody showed him that, he just started doing it! So cute :)
